This Politics of Absurdity Must End!

Needless to say, there have been mass delusions throughout history. Quite often, these masses have been led by their delusions to kill others who are not deluded. The Holocaust would be the most obvious example of that. Hitler believed that Jews were responsible for all the ills of the world. Therefore: No Jews, no problem, so let’s kill Jews! It makes sense if you truly buy the delusion.

I understand that people are willing to die for their beliefs. But the COVID-19 vaccine haters are committed to a delusion that leads to them getting sick and dying in excessive numbers.

THAT IS ABSURD.

Don’t these people know anyone who has been affected by Covid-19? Haven’t some of them been affected themselves?

And how about those elected Republicans, folks! In the end, no matter how successful they are in repressing Democratic votes, they’re going to need at least a few living Republicans in order to win re-election. But at this point, most Republicans politicians are choosing to let their potential supporters die rather than urge them to get vaccinated!

THAT IS ABSURD.

Some Republicans are going out of their way to blame DEMOCRATS for people not getting vaccinated. According to the New York Times:

Rep. Scalise of Louisiana, the №2 House Republican said he had received his first Pfizer vaccine shot only on Sunday. He blamed his hesitance on Mr. Biden and his criticism of Donald J. Trump’s vaccine drive last year.”

So because Biden criticized Trump, Rep. Scalize decided to endanger his own life until last Sunday.

A couple of weeks ago, Senator Tuberville, Republican of Alabama, said skeptics would not get their shots “until this administration acknowledges the efforts of the last one.” He didn’t seem to care if Republicans died in large numbers because Biden hasn’t kissed Trump’s ass.

But now he’s changed his tune. He knows people who are sick. On Thursday, he said:

If you’ve got doubts talk to your doctor, you know, visit with them. Visit with people that know a lot about it. Because we’re in a situation right now where it’s not going away if we don’t get more people vaccinated.

Maybe he realizes now that there might not be so many Republicans left to vote for him. But does he acknowledge that he’s changed his stance? Oh no.

I think the Republican Party transitioned from evil insanity to self-destructive absurdity. If one were in a murderous frame of mind, one could be forgiven for seeing this as an improvement, since there will be fewer Republicans around to vote in the next election.

But the problem is that these idiots have dragged the rest of country down with them and, while they were wailing about “personal freedom” and government conspiracies to put microchips in people’s bodies, the virus has taken off again — as it was destined to do without mass vaccinations.

I do not understand why we do not have a national mandate to force everyone to be vaccinated. Now the state and city are begging employers to demand that their workers be vaccinated. But the point is the whole COUNTRY needs to be vaccinated, not just one business or one city or one state.

Congress must pass a law requiring that everyone be vaccinated.

And if you think that would violate people’s personal freedoms, John Stuart Mill, who wrote the book on the subject, disagrees with you. Mill, an English philosopher, wrote ON LIBERTY in 1859. He said:

“The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not a sufficient warrant. The conduct from which it is desired to deter him must be calculated to produce evil to someone else.”

In other words, the government does not have the right to force someone to be vaccinated in order to keep that person from getting sick.

But the government does have the right to force someone to be vaccinated in order to prevent that person from passing the virus to someone else!

A pandemic is the quintessential example of a situation that empowers the government to force citizens to do something, whether they agree it makes sense or not.

LET’S DEMAND A NATIONAL MANDATE!

Admittedly, it’s a bit late. But….

Better Late than Never!
